Policy on Covid 19

Please note the following circumstances whereby you should NOT ATTEND in person sessions:

  • If you have developed even mild symptoms or are diagnosed with COVID 19

  • If you have had first-hand contact with an individual who has been diagnosed with COVID 19 or has even mild symptoms of COVID 19

  • If you have been advised to self-isolate (for example if you just arrived in the country)

  • Where you are over 70 years old or have underlying health issues of concern

It can take up to 14 days for symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) to appear. They can be similar to the symptoms of cold and flu (see here for details). The common symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) include:

If you have any of these symptoms, you should behave as if you have the virus, self-isolate and contact your GP and follow their instruction.

To protect others, please do not come for your session if you have any of these symptoms. A fee will not be incurred for cancelling at short notice in these circumstances. The option of doing an online/telephone sessions is available. Please avail of this option if you have any Covid symptoms or have been in contact with anyone who has Covid 19.

I have an ethical duty to prevent harm to my clients, while considering vulnerable clients’ needs. In the context of the ongoing global pandemic an ongoing risk assessment of the suitability of face to face therapy needs to be done in light of the evolving social situation.

Face to face therapy may need to be supplemented by online sessions when the need arises (e.g. lockdown/self-isolating). Please inform me of any known risk factors or any pre-existing health conditions you may have or people you are in regular close contact with, so we can determine if face to face contact is suitable at this time.

To afford you and others the maximum safety, I am taking the following safety & hygiene steps:

  • Restricting the number of face to face appointments

  • I have a strict no hand shaking policy

  • The room will be arranged so that there is at least 2 meters distance between us (social distancing)

  • Windows will be opened between sessions and during session

  • When leaving the therapy room please take a paper towel provided to use on all door handles and door release (exit) switches when to avoid hand contact. Please bring hand sanitiser with you in case you forget to take a paper towel on leaving

  • Hand sanitizers are available and clients are asked to sanitise their hands on arrival.

  • Clients are encouraged to take used tea/coffee cups with them and to dispose of them safely at home to avoid risking contamination.

  • Daily disinfection of all hard surfaces within the therapy room between sessions

  • Discontinuance of certain activities during therapy e.g. water drinking and shared tissue boxes (clients can bring their own water/tissues)

  • For extra safety I invite clients on returning home to immediately remove all clothes and footwear and place it in a 60 degree wash. I will be doing the same.

  • Please cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve when you cough and sneeze in session and use hand sanitiser afterwards.

  • Please do not arrive early for your session so you are not waiting around unnecessarily.

The current health advice is that face coverings should be worn in enclosed indoor spaces with other people or when staying 2 meters apart from people is difficult (social distancing). Face coverings help prevent people who do not know they have the virus from spreading it to others. I will provide disposable face coverings if you wish to wear one and you can request me to wear one of you prefer. Feel free to bring/use your own mask/face covering. I will wear one to meet you at the door.

I offer online, video/telephone counselling to facilitate clients who require assistance but for whom regular attendance at traditional one to one sessions is an issue.
